Asus Maximus IV Gene-Z

Another offering under Asus’s well established “Republic of Gamers” brand.  The Maximus series of motherboards has, since its inception, been the “cruiser-weight” equivalent of the flagship “Rampage” series, the former being based around Intel’s mainstream chipsets such as the P45, P55 and P67 while the latter incorporates the company’s high end chipsets such as the X48, X58 and X79.

Moreover, all boards baring the subtitle “Gene” are micro ATX form whilst those entitled “Formula” and “Extreme” are standard and Extended ATX  boards.

The Maximus IV Gene seen here was ideal for those seeking to build a fast, compact, and heavily overclockable system, suitable  for the most demanding applications and games.  Despite initially being over £100 cheaper than it’s “Rampage” sibling, the Z-68 chipset also supports 3rd Generation PCI Express, USB 3.0, is Crossfire/SLI capable and will likely offer a very similar level of performance in the vast majority of cases.
