Crysis 2 Patch 1.4 but Still No Word on DX11.

At the end of last month, Crytek released the latest patch for its already massively popular and yet hotly debated cross-platform alien zap-fest, Crysis 2. Though an instant hit with the vast majority of console devotees, large numbers of PC enthusiasts roundly criticised the company for failing to implement DirectX 11 support at the time of launch.

Perhaps a bigger shock was that, in contrast to both its prequels, the game did not even exploit the enhanced visual routines offered by DirectX 10 and Crytek had instead chosen to extract the very best from DirectX 9, which received its last official update well over half a year ago. Ardent fans of the PC version insist it to be as visually stunning as was ever anticipated and that the additional support – when and if it finally arrives – will make very little difference.

And so it is that the debate rages on and judging by this thread on Crytek’s forum, the patch and its associated “fixes” are not likely to appease any detractors in the mean time.

• Vote-kicking feature added.
• Added a reserved slot system for server admins.
• Further improvements to anti-cheat measures.
• Objectives are returned if they end up in forbidden areas.
• Fix for Nanosuit Modules that could not be leveled in some circumstances.
• Fix for some instances of errors logging into multiplayer that would report “Could not connect to Gamespy”.
• Fix for unlock tokens failing to be awarded if a player quit a game in which they leveled up before the end of the round.
• Fix for inconsistencies with weapon zooming.
• Fix for outdated stats being saved when a client leaves mid-game.
• Fixes to the Nanosuit Reboot option available at level 50.
• Fixed several weapon exploits.
• Fixed a rare issue where auto-aim, stealth kill and grab would not work on an AI.
• Reduced memory footprint of sound.
• Optimized full screen effects on some graphics cards.
• Optimized SSAO on some graphics cards.

The patch will be downloaded and installed automatically by Steam.

Those who do not wish for this to happen, open up Steam, right click on the game’s title (Crysis 2!), click properties, click the “updates” tab and select “do not automatically update this game” from the drop down menu.
