Rumors prompted by the temporary lock-down of Apples online store on the 3rd of May were promptly justified, with the company now flaunting several new recruits in its IMac product range. Swiftly following the March refresh of the Macbook line, four “Sandy Bridge” based IMacs now feature variants of Intel’s highly praised, energy effecient CPU. These include two models with a 21.5 inch LED screen and two bigger brothers, each boasting a 27 inch display.
Apple’s site remains typically ambigoius regarding the exact model of processor installed in each of its systems, but we can assume from the specifications disclosed that they are as follows:
Low end 21.5 inch system – Core i5 2400S (2.5ghz)
High end 21.5 inch system – Core i5 2500s (2.7ghz) in its default configuration with the option to upgrade to a Core i7 2600S (2.8ghz)
Low end 27 inch system – i5 2500S (2.7ghz)
High end 27 inch system – Core i5 vanilla 2400 (3.1ghz) by default, with the option of a Core i7 vanilla 2600 (3.4ghz).
Another important descrepancy between the systems is in the video card each uses, though all four are mobile counterparts of the latest Radeon HD 67XX series. For the low end 21.5 inch model, we have a 6750M with 512M. Both the high end 21.5 and low end 27.5 inch systems include a 6770M with 512MB while the top of the range machine features a 6970M, configurable with either 1 or 2 GB of memory.
